Venison

I've wanted to experiment with venison for a while now, but admit that I'm somewhat intimidated by it.  I also have concerns that my wife may think it's too gamey tasting.  I can live with that, since I can just make something for her and the venison for me.

What types of preparations do you all like?  What's a good go-to recipe?  Stew and/or chilli seems to be the most logical starting point, at least in my mind.  There are a lot of flavors in a good stew, which should give it a nice over-all flavor profile.  I would like to try something that's a bit more stand alone as well.  Thoughts?

The second question would be what sources do you use for your venison? In doing some internet searches I've found two places that seem to be decent vendors.  Marx Foods, which is a place that sells a huge selection of pretty much everything, but sells it in bulk.  The other place is Broken Arrow Ranch, which sells venison harvested in the US, versus New Zealand like many places.  Anyone ever order from either place or have a vendor they really like?

Thanks!

Alan
