Hi,
When I was growing up, our neighbors were from India. They gave my parents some chutney? I remember as being chutney but maybe something different. It was super sour and super hot. So much so that you couldn't eat it plain. Besides it was condiment and not something you eat it plain.
I don't know what it was but I've been wanting it ever since. We are talking like 40 years.
the condiment in question was orange-reddish brown sort of like mohagony in color. It looked like it had some kind of citrus in it and it was sliced into wedges? I think it was citrus since I distinctly remember it as having a rind of sort and pulpy fruit that was falling apart. Don't think it had any onion in it. The other thing I remember was it was super super hot. And not sweet like a typical chutney. Consistency was like chutney in that it had thin paste like consistency.
I don't think it had onion or tomato in it.
I realize this is very nebulous in its description but that is all I have to go on. I've did countless search of chutney and they all turn up with super sweet sticky stuff. Very different than what I'm looking. Can anyone help me? The condiment matched very well with curry.
I ask here because there is lot of interest with Indian food.
Thank you,
